~♪-♪°゚°。。.~ Mika Says... ~.。。°゚°♪-♪~
It's been a while since my last update but I've still been quite active on dA throughout this year.  It's surprising to think 2012 is already almost half over.  I've attended my first artist alley convention of the year in March and I turned 26 at the beginning of April. I'm going to be having my first 2012 BBQ get-together this weekend XD  A lot has happened and I think that's why time is flying by for me. I reach Monday and can't believe the weekend is over but before I know it, it's Saturday again!

My biggest news so far this year is art-related: after over two years of hard struggle through physical, mental, and social sacrifice, I decided to put my college education on hold.  Getting my bachelor's degree of fine arts is not necessary for my financial well-being and the effort I was forced to put in (not to mention the chronic lack of sleep) while working a full-time job and managing my own household was detrimental to my health. I think I was on the verge of a mental breakdown; in the last month before I made my decision, I began having nightmares on a regular basis.  I rarely dream on a regular basis and nightmares are even more elusive, so to have terrifying and disturbing dreams every time I slept was a strong sign that I couldn't take much more.

But I'm not quitting. I'll return to finish my degree in due time, when I have the resources to make attending school reasonable.  Until then, I'm continuing my studies on my own.  I'm creating art on a daily basis, refining old skills and experimenting with new ones.  My new goal now is to improve my networking with other artists and begin building up a strong body of work.  It feels like this is the first time I've been far more interested in making my own work than in making commissioned work or derivative work. I just need some more time to build up my repertoire :meow:

I hate sounding so serious though! My decision to put school on the back burner has made such an improvement in the quality of my daily life!  I don't remember being so constantly happy since last summer! It's incredible what a difference it makes to get a proper sleep on a regular basis. Although I had more responsibility while I was still taking classes, I am actually more productive without that burden.  It seems ironic but it's just a case of quantity versus quality ^_^

So, if you read this far, tell me how 2012 has treated you! What's been your best or worst moment? Have you had any epiphanies or made any breakthroughs?

I'm glad you are thinking of your health! Being happy and healthy is far more important than how much stuff you've done, I think.

My 2012 is going by very well, and also very fast! I've been sewing like the dickens and every time I do a project I get better and learn more. ^_^

I love your little rainbow critter series! So cute!

Haha... Oregon Trail... a classic.
