The pencils for this drawing were completed around this time last year, but I didn't ink and color it until a few days ago XD The whole idea was hatched as a birthday present drawing for my cat, Bear. Today is his birthday! I drew my Shiba Inu, Sun, smaller than Bear as a present to him, lol. Now he can play with Sun safely!

Deleter Black 2 ink, Copic art markers, Prismacolor colored pencils, and Sakura Gelly Roll gel pen on 2.5x3.5" smooth Bristol.

Aw, that's sad! Sort of a convoluted compliment, though (they liked it enough to steal it).

Too cute Mika!! I like how you drew the birthday cat larger than the doggie :3 The thatching is always nice, and I really love how they're giant eyes and looking at each other :)

Thank you :meow: Bear loves antagonizing the other animals, so I thought this would be a good birthday present, lol.

Have you printed these out on good quality paper and put them together into a portfolio to take to conventions and interviews?
You should! Also if you'd ever like to hang them together in a show let me know! It'd be awesome to show your work here at the art store!

When I went to Seattle this past spring, I bought a small 4x6" Itoya portfolio just for that purpose. I haven't put this particular picture in it yet, since it's so small, but I was considering it! I've already put two of my other recent small drawings in it.

I'd love to show my art in the store :D I donno what I'd need to do so, though...

They don't have to be framed, just matted or mounted on poster board.
Also I'd print them up at 8 x 10 for your portfolio. I know they were probably drawn smaller but I bet they'd enlarge pretty well too.

I scan all of my images at 600 DPI, so I normally try to go no larger than twice the original size in order to have the best possible print quality, but I'll try 8x10" and see what happens. Should I print on matte or glossy paper? All the art I've ever printed has been on glossy or semi-gloss paper, but it's always been to sell, not for a portfolio. When I bought my little portfolio, I also bought a 9x12" one for my larger work, but I haven't put anything in it yet.

I'd probably go with the gloss. It looks slicker as though it were published in a professional magazine.

Ok, awesome! I always thought prints on glossy paper looked better, I just didn't know if there was some unwritten rule wherein I'd need to match the paper on the print to the paper on the original. Sweet, I'm a step closer to having a complete portfolio!

My boyfriend suggested having a separate portfolio to showcase the artwork I don't usually (like to) do but am adept at, like oil paintings or charcoal drawings. Do you think I should do it?

I've been told to only include in your portfolio the kind of work you intend to do for pay for the person you are interviewing with. SO if you would try out for a children's book publisher a variety might be good. If you are trying out for someone who specializes in Manga art, then no, just go with what he intends to print. If they are interested in other art styles they will tell you so.
