I named this painting after my cat, Amizu. She died on the day I finished this painting.

This is the last of the three commissions for my oma. The only thing I don't really like about it is the hair...after I started painting it, I thought it looked too much like Ariel's hair from The Little Mermaid =\ This painting is 15x22", by far the largest painting I have ever done. The curling of the paper from being wet actually looks pretty neat when it's scanned here...gives it an even more oceanic feeling. Yeah, I like my mermaids...

you are right the curling of the paper is a great effect in this. It gives you that warped underwater feel and draws the viewer even more into a picture. (very sorry about your cat by the way... I love cats)

wow the colors look great, usually orange gets to me but it looks amazing here. i dont think it looks like ariel at all, but i see what youre saying. this is a funny painting in that the body type seems very different from your usual style. it looks really good too. perfectly proportionate. i always have a hard time with the end fins on a mermaids tail..i like yours <3

I am interested...in what way do you think this mermaid's body differs from my usual style? I have no idea what my usual style is, so it interests me that you see a difference! ^_^ I do know that I was trying to invent a new type of body, since she is, afterall, a mermaid and not a human. For instance, the longer arms, and the hands without individual fingers, the lack of ears and the gills in place of, and finally the longer nose (I think it was inspired by dolphins ^^). Anyway, please do elaborate for me!

Also, I am so glad you like my tail =3

lol i do love your tail <3 actually i have to admit i've always wanted a tail of my own! what you say makes sense! a lot of this is that youve elongated her from your normal style and i think it gives her smoother movement...maybe you took the knowledge of a being underwater and was able to create her that way. it's like transition in how you handled the body. she flows so easily. so whatever you did here to get that way keep doing it! <3<3<3
